NEWS!! River's Edge Synchro Teams - Beginner team is underway. Open juvenile and adult teams are on hiatus.  Need a minimum of 8 skaters per team, the more the merrier!  Skater costs per month are expected to range from $75-100 per month (includes ice time and coaching and some incidentals, fundraising helps offset costumes and travel).  Typically, would like to begin mid-September.  Contact Liz Pauley and Kate Schwaegler about the Beginner Team and Shari Baker or Sue Schwaegler for more information on the status of other levels.

River’s Edge Synchronized Skating Teams

"It's Great to Skate Together"

Mission Statement: To promote the sport of Synchronized Skating in the Quad Cities Area and develop strong athletes by teaching advanced skating skills for synchronized skating, sportsmanship, teamwork, goal-setting, responsibility & discipline.

Synchronized skating is a growing sport.  It can appear deceptively simple but calls for speed, accuracy, intricate formations and interesting transitions.  A team is composed of 8-20 skaters and incorporates aspects of singles, pairs and ice dancing into a team sport.  There are more than 500 teams registered with U.S. Figure Skating, representing more than 8,000 athletes.  Synchronized skating is a challenging sport with its own vocabulary. With a little practice, both skater and family can master the lingo... block, intersection, pinwheel, traveling circle, etc.

Synchronized skating formations are constantly evolving.  Moves have a variety of names with basics known as:  Wheel, Line, Circle, Block and Intersection.  Skater holds are also very important.  As with the formations, the holds are always changing.  Basic holds include: Shoulder, Hand, Wrist, Elbow, Open Arm,  Train, Basketweave, etc.  Joining the River's Edge team will teach these skills and much more!
